Daniel Boone Family Festival featuring Mike Cross

Daniel Boone called what is now Davie County home. He hunted deer and bear. Settlers came here by wagon down the Great Wagon road from Pennsylvania or westward to escape the storms from Down East. Boone eventually set out for points West, but before he left, a young woman caught his eye. Daniel Boone and Rebecca Bryan were married near what is now Mocksville, on August 14, 1756. His parents, Squire and Sarah, are buried in Joppa Cemetery in Mocksville.

The Town of Mocksville is proud to host the 2nd annual Daniel Boone Family Festival. The celebration is Friday, August 24th and Saturday, August 25th. Eight local non-profit organizations in Mocksville, NC are hosting the Daniel Boone Family Festival in Downtown Mocksville, Brock Performing Arts Theater and Junker's Mill.

The Daniel Boone Family Festival begins Friday evening at 5:30 with re-enactors, music and a locally written and produced musical about the courtship of Daniel and Rebecca Boone titled, "A Wanderer Born". The play is a work of Freda Ramsey's that was originally shown in 1984 at the Davie County Brock Performing Arts Center. The Saturday festival includes a parade of re-enactors, heritage craft demonstrators, food, fun, games, and music. The musical talents of Carolina Breeze, New Grass Blues, Mel Jones and Bag O' Bones lead up to the well known musician Mike Cross performing at Junker's Mill. A shuttle bus will move visitors between sites and offer short tours of Joppa Cemetery, the final resting place of Sarah and Squire Boone and other sites and monuments related to the life of Daniel and Rebecca Boone.
